Ram Manikkalingamby adepaoliRam Manikkalingam is a Senior Advisor to the Centre for Humanitarian Dialogue, Geneva, and a Visiting Professor at the Department of Political Science, University of Amsterdam. He was Senior Advisor on the Peace Process in Sri Lanka to President Kumaratuga, the previous President. He advised the then President on a range of policy issues related to the peace process with the Tamil Tiges such as the ceasefire, reconstruction, political settlement and post-Tsunami mechanism. He also assisted the President in managing relationships with the facilitator and other governments with a role in the peace process. He has also served as Special Advisor with Ambassador rank, at the Permanent Mission of Sri Lanka to the United Nations in New York. Prior to that he was an Advisor on International Peace and Security to the Rockefeller Foundation, where he led the Foundation's work in global initiatives related to preventing conflict. Ram has written a number of scholarly and journalistic articles on conflict, multiculturalism and democracy, He has a doctoral degree in political philosophy and a bachelors degree in physics, both from the Massachustts Institute of Technology. He has been a political activist in Sri Lanka for many years working in support of political and economic equality. He is a member of the international advisory groups of the Security Council Report and the East West Management Institute, both based in New York, and the Neelan Tiruchelvam Trust, based in Sri Lanka. He was also a founder board member of the Laksham Kadirgamar Institute for Strategic Studies and International Relations based in Colombo.
