Alex McDougall is a PhD student in the Department of Political Science at the University of Calgary and a Research Associate with the Armed Groups Project. His research interests include political development and the state, conflict and peacebuilding, and Latin American politics and government. His dissertation tentatively entitled, " Regimes, violence, and Contentious politics: explaining different trajectories of state formation in Latin America" examines the politics of state formation among select Latin American countries.
